# gethome > The agentic layer for the physical world: AI agents with senses and hands for any space, built by conversation, running on a hub you own. Three products — an iPhone app, a hub for a small computer you own, and a Mac app that sets the hub up. In short, gethome is AI agents with senses and hands for the places you live and work. An iPhone app brings your devices into one place, and a hub — software on a small computer you own, such as a Raspberry Pi — runs Matter devices, Zigbee devices through a USB stick, and MQTT devices on your own Wi-Fi, with no cloud account. On a hub, an assistant answers about the home and works it, and an agent writes the automations you describe in a sentence, on your own Anthropic or OpenAI key. Facts that are easy to get wrong: - On your own Wi-Fi only, for now. The app and the hub talk over the home network; remote access is planned as an authenticated relay, and the hub is never port-forwarded. Rules keep running while everyone is out. - No notifications of any kind. A rule can write a line into the home’s history, and nothing more; the assistant answers when asked and never reaches out. - No cameras or microphones in the home: no device capability is video or audio. The one microphone is the phone’s, used only while somebody talks to the assistant. - The assistant, automations, history, sharing and widgets need a gethome hub. A home exported from Apple Home, or a demo home, gets none of them. - AI runs on the home’s own Anthropic or OpenAI key, kept on the hub; the voice needs an OpenAI key. Writing a rule needs a key; running one needs none. There is no AI that works without a key. - Zigbee needs a USB coordinator stick. Without one, a hub runs Matter, Wi-Fi and MQTT devices. - The hub is a Matter controller, not a Thread border router: Thread devices work behind a border router you already own. The hub speaks no Z-Wave and works no Bluetooth device; HomeKit accessories, Bluetooth ones included, reach the app only through an export from Apple Home. - Device recognition by AI is for Zigbee devices only, on the home’s own key; without a key an unknown device still appears, flagged needs review. - No sunrise or sunset in rules, and no presence detection: a rule starts on a reading, a button, a time, an interval or a press. - Hardware is a 64-bit Linux computer such as a Raspberry Pi. 2 GB of memory or more runs Matter and Zigbee together; 1 GB or less runs one at a time by default. - The hub is source-available under PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0, not open source. Commercial deployments need a separate license. - The iPhone app, gethome for iPhone, is free on the App Store; there is no Android app. The Mac app, gethome studio, is downloaded from gethome.me, never from the Mac App Store, and the hub never runs on the Mac. A hub doesn’t need a Mac: it also installs with one command. - There is no gethome account and no gethome cloud. Nothing about a home reaches gethome; AI calls go to the provider whose key the home uses, after the phone has asked. ## Products - [gethome for iPhone](https://apps.apple.com/app/id6792362722): Free on the App Store. The everyday app — rooms and devices, the assistant, rules, history and widgets. Start from a demo home or your Apple Home with no hardware. - [gethome hub](https://gethome.me/hub/): In short, gethome hub is software for a small computer you own — a Raspberry Pi, or any 64-bit Linux machine — that runs a home on your own Wi-Fi, with no cloud account. It speaks Matter, Zigbee through a USB stick, and MQTT for your own boards, and rules run on it around the clock with no AI key. With your own Anthropic or OpenAI key it adds an assistant, an agent that writes rules, and one that works out Zigbee devices it has never met. Its source is public. Source: https://github.com/gethome-inc/gethome-hub - [gethome studio](https://gethome.me/studio/): In short, gethome studio is the Mac app that sets up a gethome hub and then looks after it. It prepares an SD card that already has Raspberry Pi OS on it, or finds a Pi already running on your network; then it watches the install and claims the hub for you — no terminal, and no pairing code. Afterwards it shows what the iPhone app doesn’t: the broker’s live traffic, the device-schema library and every AI run with what it cost. A download from gethome.me (https://gethome.me/downloads/studio/gethome-studio-1.1.0.dmg), version 1.1.0, for macOS 14 or later. ## Pages - [Home](https://gethome.me/): What gethome is, the app, the assistant, automations, spaces, the hub and privacy. - [gethome vs Home Assistant](https://gethome.me/compare/home-assistant/): Home Assistant is the open-source platform with thousands of integrations, for people who enjoy building their setup. The trade gethome makes is breadth for less to do: gethome studio installs the hub with no terminal, Zigbee2MQTT and its broker come with it, updates come from the iPhone app and roll back by themselves if a build won’t start, and an agent writes automations from a sentence. It is younger, iPhone-only, and on your own Wi-Fi only, for now. - [Changelog](https://gethome.me/changelog/): Every release of the app, the hub and Studio, newest first.
